Overtime your Zippo Wick becomes black from the carbon build up. You can pull it up with pliers until the clean wick appears. Cut the wick even with the top of the chimney and straighten the wick in the chimney. Trimming the wick can be done twice before the wick needs replacing.

Zippo lighter wicks are wired for durability and will fit most petrol lighters. Zippo wicks are high quality and long lasting. Try dipping the end of your wick in melted wax before threading through your Zippo lighter.

Pulled the old wick up with pliers exactly like the instructions said, and the clean section came out easy. A few snips to level it with the chimney and the flame is steady again. Just wish the pack came with a spare for when I inevitably burn this one down again.

My old lighter was barely sparking a flame after years of use, but trimming the wick level with the chimney top according to the instructions brought it right back to life. The cotton wick itself feels sturdy and held up well to the pull-up method, so I’m set for another long stretch.

Eli ★★★★★

The pliers trick works perfectly—I pulled the old wick up about an inch and a half until the clean part showed, trimmed it flush with the chimney, and my lighter fires on the first strike again. Easy fix that saves you from buying a whole new insert.
