With its origins dating back to as early as 1746 the business was moved by Joseph & Henry Wilson to Westbrook Mill in 1833. Incorporated in May 1895 it remained in the hands of the Wilson Family until acquired by Ogdens of Liverpool (part of the Imperial Tobacco Group) until 1953.

Production at Westbrook Mill ceased in 1962 and was moved to Ogden's Boundary Lane factory (now demolished) in Liverpool.

Today production is handled by Mac Barren of Denmark.

Finely ground and very popular the characteristics are similar to S.P. no1 but with a touch of citrus zest.

Samuel J. ★★★★★

The tap tin is a lovely nod to history, and the fine grind is exactly what I hoped for after reading about its 18th-century roots. It's a small 5g portion, but the quality feels authentic and well-preserved.

Ryan A. ★★★★★

Been reaching for this tap tin every evening since it arrived, and the compact 5g size is perfect for trying something with real history behind it. The fine grind is consistent and the old-fashioned presentation feels genuinely special.

Timothy F. ★★★★★

I was curious about snuff with such a long history, and this Tap Tin is both practical for travel and keeps the powder fresh. The texture is quite fine and the aroma genuinely old-fashioned.
