Quick answer
Choose Cutters Choice Extra Fine if you prefer a smooth Virginia smoke with a slightly sharper taste; pick Auld Kendal Golden Blend Turkish if you want a sweet, oriental-forward blend with medium strength.
Why the cut thickness matters
Both tobaccos are fine cut, but the difference in strand thickness affects how they roll and burn. Cutters Choice Extra Fine is cut slightly thinner than the original blend, which gives a sharper taste and a faster, even burn. Auld Kendal Golden Blend Turkish is also fine cut but uses a mix of leaf types that creates a denser, slower-burning smoke.
If you roll your own cigarettes frequently, a thinner cut like Cutters Choice can make packing easier and more consistent. Auld Kendal's slightly coarser texture may require a bit more attention when rolling but rewards you with a longer smoke.
Flavor profile differences
Cutters Choice Extra Fine is built around fine long-stranded Virginias, delivering a smooth, classic Virginia taste with a little extra sharpness. It's straightforward and reliable for daily smoking.
Auld Kendal Golden Blend Turkish is a more complex blend: flue-cured bright Virginia from Croatia, sun-cured dark Indian leaf, and oriental Turkish tobacco. The result is a sweet smoke with noticeable oriental notes and a rich aroma that stands out from standard Virginia blends.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Cutters Choice Extra Fine: Smooth Virginia taste with a slightly sharper edge; thinner cut for easier rolling and even burn. Best for daily smokers who want a reliable, straightforward smoke.
- Auld Kendal Golden Blend Turkish: Sweet, oriental-forward blend with rich aroma; medium strength and a denser, slower burn. Best for smokers who enjoy complex, aromatic tobaccos and don't mind a slightly more careful roll.
- The trade-off: Cutters Choice is simpler and easier to roll; Auld Kendal offers more complexity and aroma but requires a bit more attention when rolling. Your choice depends on whether you prioritize ease of use or flavor depth. If you are new to hand rolling, start with Cutters Choice. If you want to explore richer flavors, try Auld Kendal.
